Biography
Mckenna Entsminger is an artist from the Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia. Her work aims to tell a story, inspired by Western art history from the Renaissance to the Pre-Raphaelites. From painting to graphic design, her work contains fantasy influences that might just inspire a viewers future voyage.
Statement
My work is all about the joys of discovery. If you’ve ever appreciated the oddities in an eye-spy book, flipped through a travel journal and wanted more, or discovered an old map and wanted to follow it, you’ll find something familiar here. My work is for kindred spirits who, like myself, are driven by a deep need for adventure.
Growing up in the Appalachian Mountains of West Virginia, the history of rich storytelling has shaped the way I create my work. As the daughter of a local art teacher, I have been surrounded by the arts all my life, and began my own journey as an artist at a very young age.
I am always eager and looking for something new to work with, which leaves me open and excited to work across many mediums. I have dabbled in sculpture, digital, pen and ink, and printmaking- but I have always been drawn to painting above all. Even if it does span across several mediums, most, if not all of my work, is interconnected, weaving together separate parts of the same story.
My creations explore the world that resides in my head and is filled with the things I love the most. It’s a land filled with bright colors, unusual creatures, ancient ruins, and mysteries yet to be solved. My body of work is my love letter to fantastical worlds, and those who explore them, but, above all, my work is a love letter to myself who always dreamed of this world where the unusual is beautiful and the unexplained is revered.
